15th Asian Games 2006 – Doha, Qatar

In 2006 Show Canada completed a major achievement for the opening of the Asian Games held in Doha, Qatar. The project included the design, manufacture, delivery, and installation of the structure holding the flame of the Games and a large stage elevator. They were completed in a record time of six months. In 2010 the flame was relocated to “Sports City” Doha.

Stage Lift:
The lift is powered by a central system of hydraulic cylinders and steel cables. It is used to lift the decorative elements and artists to stage level. The stroke is 30 ft (9 m) and it moves at 1 ft /sec. A telescoping column provides an additional stroke of 40 ft (12 m) and is integrated into the center lift platform.

The Cauldron:
A gyroscopic structure composed of four concentric steel rings with the cauldron as the centerpiece. The largest of the rings has a diameter of 55 ft (17 m) and weighs 11.5 tons. The entire structure weighs 56 tons. It is mounted on a lift and incorporates flexible gas lines for supplying the flame.
